We must realize that this Epistle is alive with the personality of its author and other influences of which we here name only these-the Galilean background, the home bond between James and Jesus, the gospel of Jesus, his Christian mandate to the disciples, the pastrol passion of James for the people of Israel (matching that of Paul for the Gentiles), and the essential condition of the gospel as preached by both: "Refuse all substitutes" (see Jas.1:1).
